Building Information Modeling

Building Information Modeling (BIM) describes the continuous model-supported planning of a building, the use of the resulting model for various analyses and simulations as well as its continuous use in the context of management. This technology is increasingly establishing itself in practice and it is to be expected that in the next few years there will be massive upheavals in the previously largely 2D-based construction industry, thus triggering a similar technological revolution to that which already took place in mechanical engineering at the beginning of the 1990s.

In the specialization flavor Building Information Modeling you will be prepared for these changes. You will not only learn how to use digital planning tools, but also the underlying technologies and deal with issues such as data management and data exchange. The focus is on interdisciplinary collaboration, with civil engineers working together with students of architecture and the Energy Efficient and Sustainable Building program on joint projects. In addition, you can acquire programming skills that will enable you to develop your own software components or make company-specific adaptations to existing systems.

The construction industry is desperately looking for BIM experts. If you take the Building Information Modeling specialization, a wide range of attractive opportunities will be open to you on the job market.

Please note: BIM.fundamentals is the first course that students who are interested in Building Information Modeling should attend. If you want to develop your skills further, you should subsequently participate in the courses BIM.project and BIM.advancedBIM.infra is directed at students with a background in infrastructure engineering and does not require any prior knowledge of BIM.

The specialization flavor Building Information Modeling can include the following modules:

In addition, you can freely choose from the entire range of elective modules offered by the CMS chair.
