New research project: NEBourhoods

The new research project "NEBourhoods" seeks to develop a sustainable, urban vision for Neuperlach, Munich.

The research project "Creating NEBourhoods Together - Munich Neuperlach" is one of five lighthouse projects within the framework of the New European Building (NEB). The aim of the research project is to develop a sustainable, urban planning vision for the neighbourhood of Neuperlach that will point the way for other cities and regions. In this way, NEBourhoods will make a significant contribution to the NEB initiative and the EU Green Deal.

Within the project consortium, the chair of Energy Efficient and Sustainable Planning and Building is working on the sub-project "Circular Neuperlach". In this project, a Circularity Roadmap for Neuperlach is being developed. To establish circularity in the built environment, we need to change the way we design, build, and use buildings. The aim of this project is to generate knowledge about the space, potential use, construction, and materials of exemplary non-residential buildings in Neuperlach as well as their potential contribution towards the transformation of the neighbourhood. The project will develop a methodology and involve different stakeholders in the process (the real estate industry, city administration, planning, entrepreneurship, civil society). The results will be summarized in a Circularity Roadmap to establish circular buildings and related practices in Neuperlach for the long term. This should reduce resource consumption, extend the use phase of buildings and close material cycles. The results will be shared with a wide audience in an exposition and the project participants will have access to relevant networks. The Circularity Roadmap should be transferable to other districts and cities in Germany and Europe.
