Research laboratory for building services

The Research and Testing Laboratory for Building Services is recognized by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) as a testing body under state building codes (Bay.17) and is notified as a testing laboratory under the EU Construction Products Regulation (EU No. 305/2011) (Identification Number: 1511 – notified body)
Until 2013, the Research and Testing Laboratory for Building Services was recognized by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) as a testing, monitoring, and certification body.
Our accreditation certificates detail the scope of our services as a fire testing laboratory.
The test procedures fall within the flexible scope of the fire testing laboratory’s accreditation. Therefore, the test procedures may differ from those specified in the fire testing laboratory’s certificate. You can view the list here
Our work focuses on European fire resistance tests for
- Ventilation ducts
- Smoke exhaust ducts
- Fire dampers
- Smoke exhaust dampers
- Exhaust systems
- Mechanical smoke and heat exhaust systems
Our work focuses on national fire resistance tests for
- Pipe casings/section insulation on metal piping
- Pipe casings/section insulation on thermoplastic piping
- Installation shafts and ducts, including the connections to inspection openings
- Electrical cable systems with requirements for maintaining functionality under fire conditions
- Ventilation ducts
- Smoke exhaust ducts
- Mechanical smoke and heat exhaust devices
- Designs for the construction of smoke exhaust ducts with and without fire resistance duration requirements
- Fire dampers
- Smoke exhaust dampers
- Exhaust systems
- shut-off dampers according to 18017
The testing body is authorized under state building law to issue general building inspection test certificates for the accordingly recognized areas.
If products and construction types deviate significantly from the building inspection certificates of suitability for use, the Research and Testing Laboratory for Building Services is authorized to prepare specific construction- and product-related fire safety assessments (expert reports) for the purpose of applying for case-by-case approval (ZiE) and project-specific type approval (bBg) under state building codes.
In addition, research projects on the fire resistance of various building components are being conducted.
