FireSafe SolarFacade
Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Fire Dynamics of BIPV Facades

Abstract
The objective of the project is to investigate the fire dynamics of Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) façades in order to enable their safe and application-oriented use. Currently, a lack of assessment methods, validated numerical models, and reproducible datasets complicates the design and approval of BIPV systems.
The project combines experimental and numerical studies on fire spread in ventilated BIPV façade systems. Small-, medium-, and large-scale test series will be conducted to evaluate the influence of ventilation cavity geometry, fire barriers, module type, material assemblies, and electrical configurations. The resulting measurement data will serve as the basis for the development and validation of CFD models, enabling a parametric description of fire behaviour and heat release.
