06.-09. October 2026: European MOOSE Workshop 2026 for Subsurface Modeling

The Geothermal Group from the Chair of Hydrogeology in collaboration with our colleagues from the Geothermal Alliance Bavaria, TU Darmstadt, GFZ Potsdam, and RWTH Aachen are excited to announce the European MOOSE Workshop 2026 for Subsurface Modeling, hosted at TU Munich!

Bringing together the developers behind the MOOSE Framework and PorousFlow Module, this workshop offers a unique opportunity for modelers across disciplines to learn directly from the developers, from the mathematical foundations and core concepts of MOOSE to advanced applications in subsurface and geothermal multiphysics modeling.

We are delighted to welcome:

• Cody Permann (Idaho National Laboratory, USA) – Development of MOOSE Framework
• Robert Podgorney (Idaho National Laboratory, USA) – Advanced Topics: Heat and Mass Transport in Fractured Rock, Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), and the Utah FORGE Project
• Andy Wilkins (CSIRO, Australia) – Advanced Topics: PorousFlow Module
• Christopher P. Green (CSIRO, Australia) – Advanced Topics: PorousFlow Module

Over four days, participants will have the opportunity to:

• Learn directly from the core developers of the MOOSE Framework and PorousFlow Module
• Explore advanced multiphysics and porous media simulation workflows
• Discover real-world applications in geothermal energy and subsurface engineering
• Exchange ideas across scientific and engineering disciplines
• Connect with the growing European and international MOOSE community
• The final two days will also include a THC – Reservoir Reactive Transport Modeling Workshop, featuring recent developments to interface GOLEM, an application for THM reservoir modelling built on MOOSE, with the PHREEQC library. This part is intended as a parallel track with a focus on industry-oriented applications.
