Due to the geographic and tectonic location, the Andean countries are particularly vulnerable to natural hazards. The international cooperation project RIESGOS focuses on the countries of Chile, Peru and Ecuador and aims to improve the management of natural disasters including strategies to reduce cascading effects. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) and is a cooperation of the leading DLR, the GFZ, AWI, TUM-ERA, TUM-LRG, 52° North, geomer, EOMAP, plan + risk consult and DIALOGIK. As part of the project, the landslide group will research on the anticipation and modelling of landslides triggered by extreme forcing events for the next three years. In April, Michael, Theresa and Laura will travel with the RIESGOS partners to South America to meet and discuss with local research partners and government agencies.
