About Tim Bürchner
During his doctorate at TUM, Tim developed efficient numerical methods for simulating ultrasonic wave propagation and solving inverse problems in non-destructive testing. His research spans the full simulation pipeline, from immersed boundary methods for representing complex geometries and high-order finite element discretizations to stable and efficient explicit and implicit–explicit time integration schemes. Building on these forward solvers, he explored hardware-aware implementations and machine learning methods to enable practical, large-scale full waveform inversion.
