As of 2019, Prof. Konrad Nübel, Dr.-Ing., is the full professor of the Chair of Construction Process Management, while Prof. Bing Zhu, Dr. rer. pol., holds the professorship for Real Estate Development.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Josef Zimmermann Ordinarius.
Under his chairmanship, construction operations were further developed into construction organization sciences based on organizational theory. To this end, technical tunnel construction was transferred to foundation engineering, and the field of real estate development was established as a new area of research in civil engineering and, accordingly, as a new area of specialization. The chair was renamed Construction Process Management and Real Estate Development.
Prof. Hans-Jürgen Bösch took over the chair in 1989. He focused on safety issues in tunnel construction. A method for predicting and analyzing rock behavior during construction is currently being developed. In teaching, the two subject areas were separated. In tunnel construction, students are not only introduced to design criteria, but also gain a thorough insight into the geological and static aspects. The focus of research is also very diverse. In shotcrete construction in tunnel building, the aim was to carry out safety analyses during construction.
Prof. Reg.-Bmstr. Arnold Eber, full professor. His research focused on underground mining, particularly the planning, organization, execution, and computer-assisted monitoring of underground structures, as well as the development of new construction methods for large cavern construction. The tunnel construction symposia he organizes at the Technical University of Munich have received strong international acclaim. Under his leadership, the Tunnel Construction Teaching and Research Institute is initiated.
Prof. Georg Burkhardt, full professor of the chair, revamps the Institute for Construction Management. Under his leadership, the planning and implementation of construction projects are systematized in all technical, organizational, economic, and legal aspects, and planning procedures for process, schedule, and cost planning in modern construction production are developed. He establishes the “University Forum for Practice,” a highly regarded series of events that addresses current issues in construction management on an annual basis. In 1984, the University of Dortmund awards him the degree and title of Dr.-Ing. E.h. In 1974, the chair is incorporated into the Institute for Civil Engineering IV. The expansion of the chair's entire field of expertise made it necessary for parts of the subject of construction management to be taken over in teaching and research by associate professors Prof. Schub (1974, construction organization), Prof. Nawrath (1976, construction economics), and Prof. Thurner (1978, computer science in construction management).
Prof. Karl Friedrich Gustav Hetzel, full professor of the now renamed Chair of Tunnel Construction and Construction Machinery, establishes construction management as an academic discipline. He puts the increasingly industrialized construction industry on a scientific footing by developing a systematic approach to work organization. Under his leadership, the Institute of Construction Management is founded.
Prof. Konrad Viktor Pressel, full professor for the new field of study, was involved in the construction of numerous tunnels. In particular, he was the construction manager for the southern section of the Simplon Tunnel, for which he was awarded an honorary doctorate (Dr. phil.) from the University of Basel. His scientific work deals with water castles, tunnel supports, and experimental methods for predicting the rock temperature inside a mountain massif.
A new full professorship in engineering sciences is established in the civil engineering department for the teaching areas of tunnel construction, mechanical engineering for civil and cultural engineers, and deep foundations.
Professors Dr. Karl Doehlemann, Dr. Johann Gottfried Asimont, Heinrich Manderla, and Franz Xaver Kreuter (in succession) give lectures on “Tunnel Engineering” and “Adit Construction.” Professors Albert Geul and Ferdinand Loewe (successively) give lectures on “cost estimation” and “construction estimates and construction operations.”
