Christiane Thalgott has earned an excellent reputation nationwide as a city planning officer. Her commitment to the Faculty of Architecture has provided significant impetus for the range of courses on offer. For example, the establishment of an endowed chair for housing construction and housing management is due to her initiative.
After graduating from high school in Hamburg, Christiane Thalgott completed a vocational training program as an interior decorator. She then studied architecture and urban planning at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the Technical University of Munich, where she received her degree in 1971. She then worked for a year as a research assistant at the Institute for Rural Construction and Settlement (Prof. Helmut Gebhard) at the Technical University of Munich. In 1972, she moved to the building authority of the city of Norderstedt near Hamburg as an urban planner. From 1987, Thalgott worked as city planning officer in Kassel. She has been city planning officer of the state capital Munich since February 1992.
