27/04/2015 Sibylle Knapp is funded for a 3-year research project on rock avalanche sedimentation by the German Elite Funding (Studienstiftung)

The German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes e.V.) has approved funding for our PhD student and teaching assistant Sibylle Knapp (left person on picture above). The German National Academic Foundation is Germany's largest organisation sponsoring students and doctoral candidates of outstanding academic achievements.

Sibylle has been working in our research group for several months now. She deals with the mobility processes of rock avalanches. Her research will help scientists better understand the mechanisms of disintegration, entrainment and deposition, which influence velocity and runout of rock avalanches, leading to a high hazard potential. Sibylle uses significant methods in the field of applied geophysics and sedimentology at her test sites in Bavaria (Eibsee at Mount Zugspitze) and in Switzerland (Flims). The picture above is taken at the "Tschirgant Bergsturz".
