Building Services Engineering and Renewable Energies

The specialization building services engineering and renewable energies teaches the connection between energy generation, energy supply and its utilization within buildings and the related system technology as well as the building’s design.

In the field of energy generation, it provides knowledge of different energy sources with focus on renewable energies; in particular their use in buildings as far as the room conditioning systems is illustrated. Students will be given in-depth insight in building services engineering so that they master the functioning of the most important components of heating, ventilation, cooling and lighting.

One major objective of this specialization is to put the needs of the building’s users and inhabitants at the centre of the design. Target of building services engineering and energy supply is always to create a maximum comfortable living and working climate with a minimum of energy use.

The decisive determinants and most influencing factors for summer and winter behaviour of the building and its energy balance are explained. Attention is particularly given to materials, orientation, façade and typology. Only with an integral concept and compatible components – building, technology and energy supply – sustainable and energy efficient buildings can be created in the future.
