Course Content

The module is divided into two subject areas: In "Concrete constructions in tunnel construction", the basics of construction methods and design in conventional construction methods are laid and the application and design of prefabricated segment elements and special construction methods are taught. In "Engineering Geodesy in Tunnel Construction" the basics of special surveying in tunnel construction are explained.

The contents of the two subject areas are listed in detail below:

Course "Concrete constructions in tunnel construction" (2.5 SWS)

  • Fundamentals of the calculation and design of concrete safety devices and tunnel linings (interaction ground - structure, modelling and standard methods, framework calculations, FEM models, application of non-linear methods)
  • Safety concept
  • shotcrete (basics, differences to in-situ concrete, applications and production of shotcrete, dimensioning of shotcrete shells, shotcrete as outer shell, single shell shotcrete construction)
  • Tunnel inner shells made of in-situ concrete (sealing systems, unreinforced inner shells)
  • Steel fibre concrete (load-bearing properties, possible applications in tunnel construction, dimensioning of steel fibre concrete components)
  • Prefabricated segment parts (manufacture and installation, design and construction, ring pitch and segment dimensions, joint formation, tolerances, reinforcement concepts, static calculation, detail checks)
  • pipe jacking
  • Special points of detail (interface tunnel / shaft construction, portals, intersections, widenings)
  • Fire protection in tunnel construction (structural fire protection, fire behaviour of concrete tunnel shells, fire tests, hot design)

Course "Engineering Geodesy in Tunnel Construction" (1.5 SWS)

  • Basics of surveying in tunnelling (reference systems, theory and practice of surveying in tunnelling, planning of surveying in tunnelling)
  • Orientation at the portal and during intermediate attacks, gyro measurements to control the lateral refraction problem
  • Tunnel driving (measurement depending on the type of driving, convergence measurement)
  • Special tasks (curve correction, main control measurements, determination of the deviation from the nominal axis and nominal profile, pipe pre-pressing)
  • Tunnel lining and lining (segments, formwork carriages, precision surveying for rail laying)
  • clearance control (cameras and digital photogrammetry, robotic multi stations, terrestrial laser scanning)

Study Documents

All study documents can be found on MOODLE.

Exam

Each semester a written examination is offered. This includes 6 ECTS in the mandatory offer and lasts 120 minutes.

  • General questions without aids (approx. 60 minutes)
  • Calculation part: approved aids are books, study documents, simple scientific calculators (approx. 60 minutes)

The course contents of the elective modules are not relevant for the examination.

The course contents dealt with in the previous (current) semester are always relevant for the examination.

The registration for the exam must be completed in time on tumonline. The examination office is responsible for the registration for the exam.

Excursion

In the course of the 2nd master semester a large excursion of several days takes place.

In our excursion archive you will find reports of previous excursions
