Support stresses of very soft soils and their relevance for pile foundations at risk of stability

Initial situation and problems

Resistance to deformation of soft soils - processes in triaxial shear tests

Quasi undrained:

Flow of pore water is difficult to achieve;

  • rapid loading
  • long drainage paths (large pile diameter)
  • low permeability of the substrate

Quasi undrained

Flow of the pore water is possible;

  • slow loading
  • short drainage paths (small pile diameter)
  • high permeability of the subsoil
