Improving water management through physically based surface water-groundwater simulations

The BaCaTech project „Improving water management through physically based surface water-groundwater simulations“ was a collaboration project with the USGS San Diego. It had the objective to apply the newly developed version of MODFLOW-OWHM for the Neufahrn bei Freising well field recharge area. This study area was under investigation in the framework of the PROLINE-CE Interreg project and is still a pilot are in the boDEREC-CE Interreg project. The USGS partner focused on the development of advanced numerical models. The Chair of Hydrology and River Basin Management tested them in the Neufahrn pilot area and provided feedback about possible improvements of the tool. In the framework of the project, different exchanges of the involved people were financed, out of which another project proposal was financed.
