Summary
The "Building Climate - Municipal" project aims to show the advantages of sustainable construction methods for climate protection using municipal construction and renovation projects. Selected municipalities are supported in the planning and implementation of exemplary construction and renovation measures by the accompanying research. With the help of life cycle assessment, energetic modeling and socio-economic quantification methods, reference projects are analyzed and evaluated with regard to cost/benefit factors, greenhouse gas emissions, energy flows and other social, economic or ecological impacts. Strategies and aids for decision-making processes regarding demolition, new construction, renovation or alternative construction methods are developed with the objective of holistic climate protection at the municipal level and made available to municipal decision-makers. In a series of training events and through targeted public relations work, municipal stakeholders are networked and sensitized to the topic. In this way, the project promotes the development of know-how for the implementation of sustainable and lifecycle-based construction and refurbishment in terms of the implementation of European directives and municipal requirements for achieving climate protection goals in an intermunicipal exchange.
