The second Fact Sheet has been published as part of the research project "Green City of the Future".

The Fact Sheet: Like many other cities, Munich is surrounded by a green belt on the outskirts of the city. There are mainly agriculturally used areas, but also forests, heaths and popular excursion destinations such as bathing lakes. The fact sheet "Potentials of the Munich Green Belt for Climate-Resilient Urban Development" provides information on the increasing importance of the green belt in the ongoing climate change. It compactly presents the results of climate analyses and population surveys and gives advice on how to use the potential of the green belt. The fact sheet is addressed to municipalities, planners and civil society.

The research project focuses on selected Munich neighbourhoods that are confronted with the conflict of goals between green space and housing requirements. An interdisciplinary research team consisting of 5 work packages is investigating in these living labs how the requirements of climate adaptation can be anchored in the various planning levels and processes. In this context, the microclimatic impact of green infrastructure measures is modelled and socio-economic analyses on the design of urban green space are carried out with different groups of actors.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (FKZ 01LR1727A), duration from 01.10.2018 to 30.09.2021.
